Mercedes-Benz W 111 250 SE Coupé
The Mercedes-Benz W 111 was a model of the tail fins series of Mercedes-Benz, also called "big fin" among fans. The W 111 replaced the large pontoon models in 1959 and provided the technical basis for the Mercedes models until the end of the 1960s. Typical was the so-called unit body, so that the sedan models from the entry-level W 110 on the six-cylinder W 111 to the air-sprung W 112 (Mercedes-Benz 300 SE) have similar appearances. The W 111 was replaced by the W 108 in 1965 in principle, only the 230 S was produced from 1965 to 1968 as the only sedan still parallel to the models W 110 and W 108/109. The coupes and convertibles type W 111 remained until 1971 in the program.
Between August 1965 and December 1967, a total of 6213 units of the Mercedes-Benz 250 SE type were built as coupé and convertible. At Daimler-Benz, 5,259 orders for the elegant coupe were significantly higher than for the 4-seater convertible built just 954 times in the same period. As the W 111, the Coupé and Cabriolet initially featured the same sedan model 220 SE as 220 SEb / C. In contrast to the previous model, the coupe based on the unabridged frame-bottom system of the associated sedan and was thus a full four-seater. Coupé and sedan also have a lot in common in stylistic terms, but not a single one of the shell components of the four-door could be used for the coupe or convertible. For coupes and convertibles four times as many parts were made by hand as for the sedan. These C models were the last largely handcrafted Mercedes, which is why the price of the coupes and convertibles was almost twice as high as that of the sedans. From 1965, the models 250 SE Coupe with 150 hp came out with the Mercedes-Benz M 129 W 108 series. They received, as well as the three-liter models, the 14-inch wheels and the larger-sized disc brakes of the superclass series 108, now with disc brakes on the rear wheels.
Our Mercedes-Benz 250 SE Coupé was handed over to the purchaser, Mr. Jürgen Bosch, on December 8, 1965 in Sindelfingen. The registration was made with the license plate NT-AA 90 on the company Jakob Bosch u. Söhne, a construction business in Nürtingen. Later, when the car got a new owner, she wrote down the third page of the service booklet with her data. The still existing, original maintenance booklet shows that the coupe was regularly demonstrated to Mercedes-Benz for customer service until June 1982. At that time mileage was registered with 151.983 kilometers. The emissions test dated 25.07.1985 shows that the coupé still carries the license plate NT-AA 90. The mileage in November 2016 is 168,216 km, the car is still in a fantastic original condition. We hand over this vehicle with a fresh service and new MOT to its future owner.
