It ranks among the most exclusive and extraordinary luxury cars of the 21st century. Unveiled in 2008, it combined the exceptional performance of the Maybach 62 S with the traditional Landaulet body style, which for decades had been reserved exclusively for heads of state, monarchs and the world’s most prominent figures. With its combination of technology, uncompromising luxury and an open passenger compartment, Maybach completely reinterpreted one of the most traditional body styles in automotive history. The term ‘Landaulet’ dates back to historic carriages and describes a vehicle in which only the rear passenger compartment can be opened, whilst the driver always sits beneath a fixed roof. This design was already regarded as a symbol of the highest prestige at the beginning of the 20th century and was used by brands such as Rolls-Royce and Maybach for state limousines. With the 62 S Landaulet, Maybach revived this concept for the first time in the modern era and created one of the most exclusive production cars of its era.

The Maybach 62 S Landaulet was powered by a 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine developed by AMG. With an output of 612 PS and a maximum torque of 1,000 Nm, the luxury saloon – over six metres long – accelerated from 0 to 100 km/h in under six seconds, despite a kerb weight of around 2,855 kg. Power was transmitted to the rear wheels via a comfortably tuned automatic gearbox. The sophisticated air suspension system with adaptive damper control ensured the highest level of ride comfort, even on long journeys. The real highlight of the vehicle, however, was to be found in the rear. There, passengers were greeted by a fully electrically retractable fabric soft top, which could be opened in a matter of seconds and transformed the rear passenger compartment into an open-air space. The finest leathers, exquisite wood veneers, electrically adjustable individual seats with massage, climate control and reclining functions, a champagne cooler, silver-plated champagne flutes and an electrochromic partition between the driver’s and passenger compartments underlined the vehicle’s exceptional standards. Even with the soft top open, the driver’s compartment remained completely enclosed, thus preserving the classic Landaulet architecture. The Maybach 62 S Landaulet was produced in extremely limited numbers, with only 22 examples in existence. Owing to its rarity, its extraordinary design and its technical sophistication, the Maybach 62 S Landaulet is today regarded as one of the most exclusive and sought-after luxury cars in history. It combines timeless elegance, the very pinnacle of engineering and exceptional exclusivity in a way that has been achieved only on extremely rare occasions.

About the vehicle on offer here

This 62 S Landaulet is the very last Maybach ever built, ordered on 14 September 2012 by Maybach’s largest customer. He persuaded the Daimler Executive Board to build a right-hand-drive Landaulet as the crowning finale to the production run. Further special features include the facelift configuration, of which only four Landaulets were built, as well as the Zeppelin’s split exhaust tailpipes, a factory power upgrade to 630 PS, two standard poles, blue emergency lights, a leather soft-top cover with bespoke stitching, a hand-stitched Wilhelm Maybach signature on the dashboard, door latch pins made of authentic chrome instead of painted plastic, deep lambswool carpets and a central LED screen in the rear, which is connected to a camera facing the direction of travel. The creation of this one-off vehicle was extraordinary. As the decision to discontinue Maybach production had already been taken, the Maybach production line at the factory had already been dismantled, meaning that this car was assembled entirely by hand at its own dedicated workstation. No other Maybach has been accorded this honour. The car was first delivered to Switzerland on 18 February 2013. In the years that followed, the Maybach 62 S Landaulet was displayed exclusively in the owner’s collection, without the vehicle ever being driven. Nevertheless, the original owner had two services carried out by a Maybach-certified service centre in 2017 and 2019. In 2021, the vehicle was sold by Mechatronik to Japan. There, it was driven occasionally and underwent a service in 2025. In the summer of 2026, this one-of-a-kind car returned to our hands, and is now being put up for sale again in mint condition with a mileage of just 2,300 km.
