The McLaren P1 GTR

It ranks among the most uncompromising hypercars in modern motoring history and was developed exclusively for use on the racetrack. Unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the model was created as a tribute to the legendary McLaren F1 GTR, which claimed overall victory at the 1995 24 Hours of Le Mans. Unlike the road-legal McLaren P1, the P1 GTR was not subject to homologation regulations and could therefore be designed entirely for maximum performance, without having to take legal restrictions into account. Production was limited to just 58 units, making the P1 GTR one of the most exclusive cars McLaren Automotive has ever produced. The P1 GTR is powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine combined with an electric motor. Together, the two power units deliver a system output of 1,000 PS and a maximum torque of over 1,000 Nm. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. By utilising state-of-the-art hybrid technology, the P1 GTR combines the instantaneous power delivery of an electric motor with the enormous pulling power of the turbocharged V8, achieving performance figures on a par with thoroughbred Le Mans prototypes.

Compared with the road-legal P1, the car has undergone extensive further development. The track width has been increased, the weight reduced by around 50 kilograms, and the aerodynamics have been fundamentally revised. A fixed rear wing with a Drag Reduction System (DRS), a significantly larger front splitter and a redesigned underbody increase downforce to around 660 kilograms at 240 km/h. The chassis features adjustable racing components, a ride height lowered by 50 millimetres, and specially developed slick tyres from Pirelli. The concept is complemented by a carbon-fibre body and a Monocage monocoque, which ensures maximum rigidity with minimal weight. The interior, too, is uncompromisingly true to the spirit of motorsport. Carbon-fibre bucket seats, an FIA-compliant six-point harness, a fire-extinguishing system, rollover protection and a cockpit stripped down to the essentials underline the vehicle’s character as a thoroughbred racing car.

Today, the McLaren P1 GTR is regarded as one of the most powerful and exclusive track-only hypercars. Its limited production run, uncompromising technical design and connection to the Le Mans-winning McLaren F1 GTR make it one of the most sought-after collector’s cars of the 2010s hypercar era. It embodies McLaren’s philosophy of combining state-of-the-art hybrid technology, lightweight construction and uncompromising racing technology in a car developed exclusively for maximum performance.

About the vehicle on offer here

Number 15 of the 58 examples built was delivered to its first owner in 2015. The collector, who is a motorsport enthusiast, drove the car occasionally, which accounts for the majority of its mileage of just 1,200 km. During this time, the car was taken to McLaren Bahrain for servicing in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020. In 2021, part of his collection was sold to Mechatronik, which is how this P1 GTR came into our possession. After several years in the Mechatronik collection, the car is now being offered for sale to the public for the first time, following a major service at McLaren prior to delivery.
