In October 1951, just one month before the serial production of the 300 model was launched, another top model was introduced at the Paris Salon, the 300 S model; this vehicle completed the well-rounded production range, which - as was the case before the war - fulfilled the highest expectations. The new model was positioned as a particularly luxurious representative car with sports-car characteristics, designed to meet the highest of demands regarding roadability and speed.

This 300S Cabrio A was delivered to the Mercedes-Benz distribution in New York on 19 April 1955. It is a very rare model with a fixed rear seat and has its original, extremely harmonious colour combination. According to the chassis number, it was the first cabriolet to be built with the optical modifications of the 1955 model year. The convertible top and the engine have been exchanged over the years in the US. The 300S engine is identical in construction but was already produced in 1953.

The condition of the rest of the vehicle is very original and provides an excellent basis for restoration.
