The Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG

For AMG fans, this car needs no explanation. However, we would like to quote the driving report from "Auto Bild" from 2004.

"Until now, it could only be admired as a safety car on the track, but now it's at the dealer: the husky SLK 55 AMG. 360 hp for all eventualities. Okay, it doesn't have 19-inchers, no four-point seat belts and neither radio nor monitors. And the civilian Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG buyer also has to do without the admittedly impressive lighting system on the roof. But that would look a bit silly on the road. The AMG roadster, which is racing around the world's racetracks as a safety car this year, needs such equipment to keep the Formula 1 crowd at bay. The road version has everything the well-heeled after-work chum needs: 360 hp from eight cylinders, the Speedshift automatic with seven gears as well as steering wheel gearshift and manual drive program, sports seats suitable for long distances, 18-inchers, sports suspension and a brake system that reliably brings it all to a halt. A V8 in this class is unique, its weight of 1540 kilograms is no mean feat, and its sprint time of 4.9 seconds is breathtaking. Despite the engine's weight of 167 kilograms (only six kilograms more than the V6 supercharger in its predecessor), the SLK has not become top-heavy at all; it can be thrown into corners with ease. Even with ESP switched off, the dynamic handling systems (ESP, ASR, Brake Assist) detect slippage at the wheel on the inside of the corner and apply the brakes in a targeted manner, but without taking away power. This increases traction on the rear axle - and guarantees unadulterated driving pleasure on the race track. But the SLK 55 AMG's real metier is the country road. Every overtaking maneuver is accompanied by the driver with a broad grin. The V8 responds immediately, and the transmission implements the driver's wishes without delay. The manual driving program allows each gear to be used to the full without the automatic shifting up on its own.And the whole thing is accompanied by the lightly squeezed AMG sound, which mutates into a friendly hammering when the throttle is really opened. The acoustics are more impressive when the fixed-roof design is folded up after a 20-second gala performance and takes up 92 of the total 300 liters of trunk space. Safety car driver Mayländer has to do without so much freedom - because of the lighting system on the roof. In return, the AMG engineers have given his car considerably more sound: Its roar wakes up even the most bored Formula 1 guest in the VIP box.

The vehicle offered here was delivered in April 2005 to its Belgian first owner, who was to keep the car for the following almost 17 years in his Mercedes collection, but almost without also driving the car. And so the mileage at the time of sale shows a mileage of just 1,650 kilometers. We are convinced that it will be an almost impossible task to find a comparable vehicle on the market.
